Bandsaw Blade Welding

15 January 2022

Along with our custom lifting chain assemblies, another service that we offer here at Nationwide Industrial is the welding of bandsaw blades. For years we had been welding smaller sized blades, but with our recent acquisition of Scarney Industries, who was a premier supplier of bandsaw blades in the Youngstown area, we are now able to weld up to 1-1/2" blades in-house.

When picking the right blade for the right application, there a few key pieces of information that you need:

1. Length: The length of your blade is key for it to fit on your machine. Typically they are measured in 1/2" increments, but can made more precise upon request. Most bandsaws have some play or "takeup" to adjust the tension, which is useful.

2. Width: Similar to length, the width will be provided by your bandsaw machine and a required piece of information when ordering a blade.

3. Tooth Count: This may be the most crucial part of your bandsaw. Tooth count dictates not only the type of cut you will get, but also the life of your blade. To find your tooth count, you need to measure a 1" length from peak to peak or valley to valley, and the amount of teeth within that 1" will tell you your count. Some common types are 6T, 8T and 10T, and also varying teeth like 4/6T, 6/10T, and 10/14T. Varying teeth alternate between two tooth counts to give you a different style cut.

4. Blade Material: Standard materials are bi-metal and carbon, but other materials are available such as hybrid, carbide, and cobalt for extreme applications.
